Today is week 2 postpartum and lots of progress has been made, so much that my body is telling me to slow down and relax a bit more, but I have a hard time just sitting around and healing. Our garden is currently going crazy and producing massive amounts of zucchini from one plant, so I have made zucchini bread, cookies, shredded bags for later, parmesan crusted zucchini and now I have three left just sitting on my table ready to eat. So tonight for dinner we will be having caprese zoodles, anyone else love zoodles? Anyone have any good recipes they want to send me? Or if you live close, pop on by and pick one up.
So let’s see, over the last week, I am down 24/40 pounds which is great progress for only two weeks into recovery. I feel so much better than I did the first week, and I can actually sit down without wincing now. Standing for long periods is still a challenge, it feels like pressure in my bottom area for some reason. I have been wearing a belly band since I came home from the hospital and I think it is helping to shrink my stomach faster than it would otherwise. I don’t mind it at all except when sitting out in the heat, it gets a bit sweaty. I am having night sweats, but I remember them with my other two kids so that should subside after my hormones regulate a bit. I have also been sleeping better than before, and my chest isn’t getting so engorged in the middle of the night. TMI?
Some of you may be wondering how pumping is going. Monday I sent my first shipment of the liquid gold to Sara and Derek and we used a system called Techni-Ice, which is a very cool product. It arrived in flat paper like sheets and I had to hydrate them in warm water and let them soak until they expanded. Then I put them into my deep freeze for 12-24 hours to freeze. On Monday, we put one in the bottom of a Styrofoam cooler, a sheet of newspaper, then loaded in 40 packs of milk, another sheet of newspaper and then one on top and sent it to baby Jackson. I guess they work pretty well, Sara said that the top bags were starting to thaw a bit, but the bottom bags were still rock solid. I think next time we will package up just before pickup at 5pm so they don’t have as much time to thaw. Or maybe we will try putting the ice packs along the sides instead of top and bottom.
Over the last few days, my milk supply has been going down a bit, even though I am on a 3 hour pump cycle. I noticed that I had 2-3 hard ducts that were starting to get painful, so yesterday and the day before, I started to heat and massage and pump as much as possible to get them to open up. The good news is that I think I got them to release yesterday and we are on the road to recovery. No one wants Mastitis…ain’t nobody got time for that!
Lastly, a perfect picture of darling Jackson on his way to the 2 week baby checkup. I guess he wasn’t as interested in going as his parents were. Love these moments.
