The last two weeks have been absolutely insane at work, we have had a bunch of new proposals hit all at once, leading to late nights and working through weekends. Through all of it, my company has been so supportive by recognizing us in front of our peers, buying lunches, dinners, and giving us gift cards as a thank you. On top of the craziness of new business, we scheduled a digital summit for 13 of our vendors to come in and present on the state of digital media and programmatic TV buying. After all the new business craziness, the digital summit I was so ready to go out and enjoy a nice dinner and a glass of wine with one of our vendors.
We headed to Valter’s Osteria, and if you are ever in Salt Lake City, this is a must try. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Did I mention it was snowing? We didn’t have much of a winter this year, which means low water levels and droughts during the summer months. I sure hope the 3 feet the resorts received and the foot of snow we received will help out a little, not sure it will. I sat there in the restaurant waiting for the others to arrive, noticing the beauty of the snow falling while we sat in the warm restaurant. The others arrived and the party began. When I say party, I meant party. The vendor taking us out is an animal, he was ordering bottle after bottle of Champagne, wine and when we got to dessert, there was Grappa and other delicious honey flavored liqueur.
Let’s step back a few paces, we started off with an antipasti dish, mine included 3 cheeses, pears, nuts and plums. The second course was a sampling of 4 types of pasta, which didn’t disappoint. When I thought it was all over, they brought out a fish dish that was unbelievable. I was stuffed!
The next thing I knew there was a portable hot plate by our table and they were delicately cracking eggs to make a homemade custard with a chocolate cake, and then a small cup of chocolate sauce and biscotti was served. I have never had a more delightful and delicious dinner in my life.
During the dinner however, I received multiple calls from my husband and a text message to call home immediately. I was in a panic and concerned one of my grandparents had died, Billy never calls me like that. I stepped away after excusing myself from the laughter and wine, did I mention there was wine? It is starting to sound like I am a lush, just to make you all feel better (or me), I am a light drinker and only had 2 glasses and sips of other liqueur to taste…I was the DD that night.
So I stepped away and when I called Billy he went into a phone conversation he had. “So I got a call from a phone number I didn’t recognize, and when I answered they asked if I was sitting down. Sitting down? I wasn’t sure who it was but then they said their names, and I knew it was the IPs. I was totally freaked out, I had a sick feeling they were backing out. No, this can’t be the case after all we have been through. But then they said, the courts approved everything and we can move forward.” I stood there shaking, the moment I had been waiting for arrived, not only that, it arrived a week earlier than I had planned. I wanted to sit and talk with Billy but I had to get back to the dinner, I didn’t want them to worry. When I sat back down, I had to lie, ugh! I told them Billy wasn’t sure where to find Lauren and needed a number from me.
I sat there with a grin on my face, listening to story after story shared at the table, watching food come and go, wine come and go and I was at peace, I was happy, I wanted to celebrate. The night ended with a bang, the Dom Perignon started to flow and of course I had a few sips to celebrate, my own secret celebration. After many hugs and goodbyes, I headed home to bask in the good news with my husband. This was happening, really happening.
