What a day! After filling my bladder with just over 24 ounces of water, we headed to the Ultrasound facility to take a peek at this cute little baby. Our tech Ida was absolutely amazing and spent over an hour with the four of us explaining more than anyone could even hope for. The brain looked perfect, the heart, lungs, kidneys, legs, arms and all other body parts were absolutely as they should be. Sara and Derek were overcome with emotion and I couldn’t help but cry as well.
What a beautiful story we have created, and while it may not be the traditional path, it is our path…their journey to being parents. After doing a partial body scan, Ida moved to the under carriage to see if we had a turtle or 3 lines.
And low and behold, it is a BOY! Derek is the last of his line and without a boy they would not be able to carry their name on. I was convinced this baby was a girl, I kept looking at that turtle thinking, how can this be a boy? After a zillion pictures and measurements, the ultrasound ended and we headed out to lunch to celebrate.
We ended up at a yummy Mexican joint and devoured the chips and margaritas (mine was virgin of course). Then we scarfed down our food and headed back to the hospital for a visit with the doctor. We were running late and when we arrived at the hospital, after a bit of smobbin’ to get there, I realized I left my purse at the restaurant. Oh the pregnancy brain I have this time around is Crazy! Luckily we ran into another friend at lunch and he just left so he turned around and grabbed my purse and delivered it to the hospital – shout out to Ryan for being the best ever!!!
We spent about 45 minutes with the Doctor so that Sara and Derek could ask any questions they had and to get an idea about how the process would go down. Being first time parents they have lots of questions about the overall process and what to expect. Next on the agenda was a quick tour of Labor and Delivery and then Maternity and the Nursery. After the hospital tour, we were all at ease with the process and outcomes and now we just sit back, relax and keep this baby growing as he should be.
After the hospital tour we headed home to show my kiddos the pictures and videos we captured from the Ultrasound and did a bit of relaxing. I can’t believe how exhausted we all were, what a day of emotions.
