Although we have had a beautiful winter filled with sunshine and warmth, it is time to get away and spend time pool side, maybe even get a little color on my super white skin. We headed down south to the red rocks of Utah, with 3 adults (my mom joined us), 2 kids and 3 dogs. My dad was already there enjoying the warm weather and checking in on my grandparents who are 96 and still live in their own home.
The car ride was quiet mostly; the kids seem to entertain themselves between naps. It was nice to spend some time just chatting away with my mom, laughing at her stories, and reminiscing about old times. We always stop half way and pick out a snack or drink to pass the time and stretch our legs. After a quick pet break, we all jumped back in and finished the car ride down. I have heard horror stories from friends about how awful their kids are in the car, but ours have found a way to get along and not pester each other too much. I guess it helps when you have a SUV and can pop the smallest one in the third row.
We arrived around dinner time to hot pizza and my Dad’s warm smile. He has been so excited for us to arrive and called a few times to check in on our status and ETA. As soon as we arrived, and our bellies were full, the kids jumped into their suits and headed to the pool with my dad, and Billy and I headed out to Wally World (Walmart) to grab a few groceries. I am reminded why I really hate shopping at that place, it was packed, had no service on the floor and a slow checkout clerk. After two hours (should have taken 40 minutes with drive time) we finally made it back to the house…ugh! So tired from the ride, we opted to relax and head to bed rather than a dip in the hot tub.
Tomorrow we are heading out for a quick run, some pool time and then the annual Art Festival in the town square.
