Earlier this week we decided to tell our families the amazing news about being a Gestational Surrogate as well as being pregnant. We started with my parents and dropped in unexpectedly. The kids wanted to be part of the announcement so we let Lauren announce that I was going to be a surrogate and played a darling video that the Intended Parents put together, and then afterward, Will announced that I was 7 weeks pregnant. My mom was quiet, thinking through everything, not wanting to say something she may regret, while my dad was asking question after question to wrap his brain around it. I could tell they were both stunned but also just fearful of my health. When it was time to leave my mom gave me the longest hug and told me how much she loves me.
Then we headed off to family dinner at Billy’s parent’s house, something they do every Sunday. While we were eating, Billy was trying to get the video to load on the TV, but had to reformat it and try a few tricks to get it ready. Once it was ready, Lauren made the announcement again and they all watched the video. After the video, the barrage of questions was amazing, but Will stopped them all and told them the news, which led into more questions. I am sure I sat there for nearly an hour answering questions and seeing all their reactions, it was great.
All in all a great success, I think the families are all very excited for us, they are just processing emotions about watching me carry a child that isn’t mine, isn’t related to them and for a family they don’t know. We are looking forward to announcing it to the rest of the extended family and friends once we hit the 12 week mark.
